That's a good point. App sales are slowing, probably due to a cooling off of the initial excitement. The iPhone penetration is meanwhile growing BUT among a second wave of more mainstream users that aren't as inclined to download and use multiple apps.

There could be a learning curve here and mobile search tools and apps could slowly make their way to greater mainstream adoption as the iPhone itself does (by virtue of mass appeal and lowered price).

But it's still important ask; though mainstream users will get into some apps and some local search tools, will they use more than 2 or 3 regularly? And will those 2 or 3 be the default apps that come with the phone such as Google Maps?

Important questions that we'll see play out.

Hot, but seems to be cooling down after the initial rush. Those were the early adopter power users i assume. I wonder if more users over time will mean more traffic/downloads, or will it level off for average users than don't care about all those apps. I'll bet Apple will have to keep a steady flow of good free apps coming to keep enticing people to show up and to keep it lukewarm at least.
