Summer Bookshelf: ‘The Ghost Map’
If you are looking for a great read, pick up “The Ghost Map” from Outside.in cofounder Steven Johnson. The book, published in November, poignantly tells the story of how an amateur scientist and a clergyman use their knowledge of a local neighborhood in London to track down the root causes of a major cholera breakout in 1854. Krillion Localizes E-Commerce With SEO
Krillion, the retail search engine optimizer whose motto is “find national brands, locally,” is now getting 65,000 unique visitors per month and more than 200,000 page views to its appliances, the first of many planned verticals. Adap.tv and Vehix: Cross-Pollinating Media
As with many emerging technologies and content delivery media (notably mobile), there is a great deal more usage than there is advertiser interest. In online video, this has had a lot to do with the challenges in contextually placing ads with video in a relevant yet nonintrusive way (explored in this past post). (read more…)

Tribune Extends City Guides to L.A. and N.Y.
Tribune Interactive has added Los Angeles to its list of Metromix city guides, which also include Chicago, Orlando and Baltimore. Next week, it will add New York City as well. Eventually, Tribune aims to have the Metromix brand in all its newspaper and TV markets. (read more…)

Vehix Puts on a New Face
Vehix.com CEO Derek Mattsson announced at the company’s annual summit that, starting today, it will officially be known as just Vehix. This is meant to signify its directions into many delivery mechanisms in addition to online. This includes mobile and television a direction it has already taken, but will do so in a much more meaningful and concerted way going forward. (read more…)

Insights From Constant Contact’s IPO Filing
Constant Contact, the leader among e-mail marketing services for small businesses with 120,000 customers mailing out 500 million e-mails a year, has filed for an IPO. In the S1, the company says it is looking to expand its services beyond e-mail to include survey solutions and upgrades, such as logos and archive access (a May profile of the company is here). Superpages Added to IM-Based Local Search Service
Starting this fall, Idearc Media’s Superpages may be accessed via instant messaging as a result of a new relationship with Multiplied Media, the Calgary-based provider of Poynt, a local search service that operates over IM. Multiplied Media was formerly known as IllumiCell. Poynt currently hosts Yellow Pages Group’s Internet Yellow Pages and classifieds in Canada. (read more…)
