Facebook Gets a Job(ster)
In a move that resembles MySpace’s partnership with SimplyHired (to create MySpace Jobs), fast moving social network Facebook has partnered with career site Jobster.
CareerBuilder and Monster were in the running for this deal, according to GigaOm, but Jobster won out, giving it a much needed boost in distribution and exposure.
For Facebook, this brings an added dimension to its quickly growing social network. After becoming massively successful with high school and college students (a .edu e-mail account was needed to sign up), it released access to the rest of the world in September, and has since seen its usage skyrocket. Now it has formed its second deal in two days (the first was with Comcast, as we reported yesterday).
The addition of recruitment is interesting, given that a major chunk of Facebook’s user base remains college-aged. It could represent an opportunity to target this demographic with specific forms of job advertising (think entry-level corporate, internships, etc.)
This is also an interesting marriage of social networking and recruitment. Add them together and what could you end up with? Career networking. Sound familiar? This could eventually overlap or compete directly with LinkedIn among others.
