I agree with a lot of it. But I’m not sure what benefit Google and Yahoo! would get by driving too far into the weeds on the local search road. I do believe local and regional directories will develop to serve the needs of local businesses and advertisers.

Is that good news for Yellow Pages and sales force driven segments? Not necessarily. Up to now, Yellow Pages and others have been too rigid. Unless they grasp the opportunities for partnerships and new sales products, Google-style, self-serve solutions will creep up on the industry faster than expected (but not so much in 2007).

Yahoo has partnered with Yellow Pages Group in Canada for Local Business Searching. Includes digitized ads that are keyword searchable directly from the printed books.
