I experienced similar problems with Amazom after shopping with them for 8 years, but now I am looking around for reasonable alternatives.
!) I purchased books which qualified for "free" shipping within 3 days. At checkout the charges for shipping, almost as much as the purchase.
2) Had difficulty with "help", got boiler plate automated response, until I did a google for the US HQ tel#, but got someone from India who helped solve the problem. You get overcharged if you are not persistent.
3) Amazon is too big nw to be efficient like it used to be.
