Not a lot of time to blog today so here is a roundup of notable happenings.
—The bidding war to unwire San Francisco with citywide Wi-Fi is over, and the winners are … Google and EarthLink. Here are write-ups from the San Jose Mercury News and Search Engine Journal. We’ll go deeper into this in next week’s Local Media Journal.
—Here is a forecast that social media will grow at a compound annual rate of 106.1 percent from 2005 to 2010, reaching $757 million in 2010.
—Nielsen reports traffic increases at shopping sites.
—In a separate study, Nielsen reports what we all know to be true, but television networks still try to deny — that no one watches ads on recorded DVR content.
—Mobile content gets another boost at the CTIA Wireless show going on this week.
—Editing video to post on YouTube or any other video-sharing site just got a little easier. This tool lets you do it right in your browser.
—Here is a good roundup (which I guess makes it a roundup within a roundup, if you can handle that) of newspaper advertising news and figures. Look out for our forthcoming newspaper white paper.
—And lastly, from the rumor department, News Corp. could be looking to acquire a search company, and Google may soon launch its own music store to rival iTunes.
