Danger Ahead Rupert Murdoch
News Corp.'s purchase of social networking and music promotion site MySpace could only have been motivated by a desire to acquire social networking/community tools and the teen/young adult demographic that frequents the site.
This AP article suggests that Murdoch may have trouble effectively using MySpace as a promotional vehicle for his various properties. There are books, magazines, cable TV networks and movie studios, but no music holdings to speak of — which is where the synergy would be.
The inability to use it as a promotional vehicle to reach its demographically coveted user base would substantially diminish its value to Murdoch.
