Adzookie Brings New Meaning to ‘House Ad’
At first I thought this has to be an April Fools’ joke. But hitting my inbox today, the date seems to be off. So as far as I can tell, it’s real.
Mobile Ad network Adzookie is offering to basically turn your house into a billboard. The company will pay your monthly mortgage if you let it repaint your house with the marketing message of one of its ad partners or Adzookie itself (get it … “house ad”).
This sounds obnoxious at first but it might not be so bad if you’re hard up for cash or just want to piss off your neighbors. And it seems to be catching on as the company has been contacted by 223 homeowners, 12 businesses and even one church.
Assuming anyone actually does this to their house, isn’t it just a matter of time before local zoning boards catch up to this and make it impossible? Sure this isn’t a joke?
I agree. Many homes will be precluded based on community bi-laws. And those that aren’t in place surely will be after angry mobs of entitled housewives with nothing better to do will go all “town hall” on it. And is there a limit to the size of mortgage Adzookie will pay? This being a tangential humor piece to our normal coverage, i didn’t do the full reporting for some of these questions. Maybe i’ll have the outside of my apartment painted and get some questions answered.
