Social Networking Goes the Last Mile
A new social networking site called Eons.com launched earlier this week. The concept: a Web site for 50-plus Americans. It includes an obituary database and alert notification when someone, well, passes.
Jeff Taylor, the founder of Eons.com, told Reuters, "The death business is growing." He cited data revealing that the number of deaths in the United States had increased to 2.4 million in 2005 from 2.2 million in 2000 and was projected to rise to 4.1 million by 2040.
Jeff was the founder of another "fairly" successful business called Monster.com. You can see the site here.
In the meantime, here is the home page:
I don’t suppose this product generates an audible signal when an "unfortunate event" occurs? Kind of like the Southwest Airlines "ding" that signals a great airfare is available? It could be angel bells ringing or the Adam’s family doorbell, depending on one’s sensibilities.
