Everyday Health Launches Local Health Deals

Everyday Health, the health portal with 26 million unique visitors coming from its 25 brands, including Revolution Health, Mayo Clinic and Drugstore.com, is going local via Health Deals, a group buying site. The site will leverage the company’s extensive email list, and is powered by Group Commerce.

The idea is to be the place where health conscious consumers look first for steep discounts on health-related purchases, such as spas, training sessions, yoga, gyms, organic dining, etc. The site’s first deal is a $20 deal for two personal training sessions in a private gym. That’s 73 percent off. Deals will all be sorted by three categories: Fitness and Health, Beauty and Wellness, and Living Well.

David Siegel, senior VP and GM of local, tells us the site will start with one deal a week in New York. But it will soon ramp up to two times a week and then daily in short order. It will also be adding additional markets, with plans to eventually be in every major city. By the end of the year, Siegel is expecting the site to support 300 deals a year.

Health deals are not especially new in the group buying space. Siegel concurs that roughly 20 percent of deals on sites such as Groupon and LivingSocial fit the broader definition of “health” that the site uses. But other sites haven’t focused exclusively on health-oriented deals, says Siegel.
